Extracurricular programs are generally scheduled in late afternoons and weekends and will be organized so as not to overlap each other.

ORIENTATION DAY
When: Saturday, 12th June
Where: AIT Campus and downtown Budapest
Introduction of participants, professors, AIT staff, visit to the AIT campus. Followed by an interactive guided tour of Budapest with practical advice on getting around the city and an informal party in one of the bars in downtown Budapest.

INAUGURAL CEREMONY of Aquincum Institute of Technology, combined with the REUNION OF BSM
When: Saturday, 19th June
Where: AIT Campus (outdoor event)
Program Founder Gabor Bojar will introduce AIT, and speakers will include Budapest Mayor Gabor Demszky, the CEO of Microsoft Hungary, Laszlo Drajko, and the Director of the Budapest Semesters in Mathematics (BSM) Dezso Miklos. Erno Rubik, inventor of the Rubik's Cube and a founding Board Member and instructor of product design at AIT, will also unveil a new sculpture of his own design. This will be followed by distinguished lectures by Laszlo Babai, about mathematical generalizations of Rubik's cube, and Gábor Domokos, about the story of the GÖMBÖC. This will be followed by a garden party with barbecue and live music. Participants of the 25th Anniversary BSM and additional guests are welcome to participate in this event.

HUNGARIAN ART AND CULTURE
When: three times during the academic period (June 17th, 24th and July 1st)
Where: once on AIT Campus and twice off- site
Students attending this short program will gain a unique insight to Hungarian and Central European art and culture. After one classroom session students will explore Budapest’s rich and turbulent culture through study tours in the city and visits to interesting sights and monuments.
Price: entrance fees to museums are usually around $10-20

MUSIC SERIES - János Mácsai (musicologist, journalist, instrument expert and restorer)
When: three times during the academic period (June 18th, July 2nd and 6th)
Where: once on AIT Campus and twice attending concerts / performances
Hungarian classical music, Central European music, its roots in folk music and very special urban popular music, the operetta will be introduced by János Mácsai, musicologist.
Price: concert tickets are usually around $30-50

ROWING CLASSES ON THE DANUBE
When: Monday and Wednesday afternoons (altogether eight times during the Summer School)
Where: Rowing Club Külker - Roman Beach, Budapest (3 bus stops from AIT Campus)
No wonder that small Hungary has always provided the most successful canoeing and kayaking teams in the Olympic Championships. The beautiful River Danube is also a wonderful sporting resource with rowing around small islands and among quiet river branches. AIT is organizing this sport course with the assistance of a professional Rowing Club. Participating students will meet twice a week at the boat house and form teams supervised by an English-speaking expert.
Prerequisite: for proficient swimmers only

INTRODUCTION TO HUNGARIAN CUISINE 
When: Friday, June 25th 4:30 PM
Where: Graphisoft Park – Central Restaurant Kitchen
After a tiring day of study, relax with an active leisure program and get familiar with Hungarian cuisine. Learn from Graphisoft Park’s chef to cook a delicious Hungarian meal. Don’t even think about going out for dinner that night!

CONQUER THE BUDA HILLS
When: Sunday, June 13rd
Where: Budapest
Half-day, open-air program in the wonderful Buda Hills with a ride on a chair-lift. Team games and rope course adventures in "Challenge Land" and a Hungarian dish cooked in a large traditional iron pot.

EXCURSION TO GÖDÖLLŐ AND HOLLÓKŐ
When: Sunday, June 27th
Where: Gödöllő and Hollókő, two beautiful towns not too far from Budapest
This is a one-day program – mostly outdoors – visiting the Gödöllő Royal Palace, beloved seat of Empress
Sissi, and Hollókő – a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Price: 18.500 – 27.000 HUF (depending on number of participants)

BALATON SOUND FESTIVAL
When: Saturday-Sunday, July 10th – 11th
Where: Zamárdi, Lake Balaton
Balaton Sound Festival is to be held for the fourth time in 2010 at Hungary's fanciest beach, along the shore of Lake Balaton. Five major and several minor venues await festival-goers twenty-four hours a day with a wide choice of musical programs. Jazz ensembles provide a musical background for your sunbathing.
AIT will organize the trip and rent a house for interested AIT students.
